Buzan Memory Workshop / Steelers outing @NYP P4

Glad to see so many of the past graduates turn up for this fun workshop. Some of them actually have very good memory ...like watermelon...so i think she come for the sweets...but she forgot to look through the graduation CD!!!

I think we have a fun hour together learning,. After the lesson we try recalling the 20 ltems and I believe most have no problem getting it all correct. Can easily double the images and go for 40 items without any difficulty.
It's now 9pm in the evening, exactly 9 hours after the workshop...and I now will again recall the 20 items using the image linking technique:
1) Bun - Cow (think beef burger)
2) shoe - Calibration (shoe scale below)
3) Tree - Jurong Island (which absolutely dun have any tree)
4) Door - NanYang (Capital / colour)
5) Hive - paper (Ah han waving)
6) Stick - Elina (Liang po po)
7) heaven - apple (your death present)
8) gate - Dollfie (poor thing)
9) Vine - Sailormoon (which one??)
10 ) hen - mooncake (quadraple yoke!!)
11) chopsticks - fountain (yummy yummy)
12) Swan - fondue (cheese - yellow type)
13) heart - chocolate (this is easy)
14) Yatch - pudding (food..food..more food)
15) Hook - Big Bird (not me not me)
16) Eleohant trunck - pamelo (look out!!)
17) Cliff - latern (dead at 95!!)
18) snowman - Ci Xi!! (this one really fuuny to imagine)
19) Flag - Dim Sum (lai oh lai oh - sarah )
20) Donut - Kang Xi ( so easy - what about next 20?)

seriously the images are as vivid and fresh as per the time in P405...this is how our brain function!!!
Then we have subway lunch and played settlers / dice. Haiz..today not so lucky...ate 4 jellues. Also happy to train another few settlers players among us. :)
Now please let me know your frank opinion on the workshop?? Appreciate your comments.

  • I was wondering how to link technical terms/concepts to ur 1-20 methods? It's still feasible for mermorising module but not for understanding.

BTW...what you taught was exactly Adam Khoo taught me in his book.

Anyway greatly appreciate your workshop. Thanks for the effort.

  • Hi Sir!

Thanks for your interesting and informative workshop. It has really given me a deeper insight into how we actually can improve our memory plus retain the information acquired for longer than expected. I'll try to do this for some of the memory stuff in my modules...haha

  • heyoz mr goh,

da memory skills u taught us will b useful wen we wan 2 memorise certain concepts or content....but i tink da greatest challenge 4 technical disciplines is how 2 link da basic images n rhymes 2 technical concepts?.....

for eg....visbreakin process....how 2 memorise da process flow diagram usin da basic images?

however....thanks mr goh...4 impartin 2 us tis memory skill n organisin todae's get together....:)

  • yaya Cerelia...this is not a cure-all panacea that will solve your UNDESTANDING n MOMORY difficulties...but pls remember the basics...use colour / size /humor/symbol = MINDMAPS to help. Use it like a habit..n u will be better n better at it!!

if u say u dun even understand your lecture...than i really cannot help...listen more to BBC perhaps? hahahah

  • Hey Mr Goh,

Yar, first of all really thank you for organising this workshop cum gathering (it is so nice to go back to old place and seeing familiar faces)! At first, i thought how can one memorise 20 items in jumping sequence...well maybe not for me. BUT BUT i didn't realise that my mind starts to memorise and even better while laughing at your exaggeration and humor! And i am totally surprised that i could do it at the end of the course, just in the snap of fingers! I had fun! =)

  • hoho!!! I managed to rem all 20 things we listed using this method!!! Very useful..but 1 down pt is that I dun have enough creativity to make the 'image' hurmourous or vivid. I tried using the method on my molecules structure(tetrahedral, trigonal planar) not much weird image comes out..:/ *psss teach product & creativity? :x fleeeeeeeee~*

Overall: it's a good & useful method to memorize things

Kakaka so happy~~ lucky I never eat until auto-purge :P Target u more fun mah :x *fleeeeeeee*

  • alright.. I got another weapon!!
    haha

yup it's super useful for a picture-person like me. Tried the mind map thing before for biology (but now i only remember the eyeball and skin I drew, the words written on it seem to have disappeared! too long didnt see liao..).
Now I think have to figure out a way to apply it to the mechanisms the lecturers are feeding us with every lecture!!

yupp THANKEW! For sharing this learning skill and of course the chocolates =)

Sorry for my late comment =p
I thought the workshop was fun and informative. Expecially about the rhyming and mind maps.

Now my only problem is... how to associate 1.bun and 2.shoe with biomolecules.. wahahahah...

Anyhow, it was a fun day and i'm glad i came! =)

Thanks for organising it, mr goh!
