Funniest thought in RS exam script marking

Benn marking 92 RS exam scripts the whole day...really need something to spice up the activity abit...then I saw this...

I almost burst out laughing when I saw it...U know what I thought of stright away ?

The 1st thing comes to my mind is the Mr Brown's podcast sound effect -

it goes like this :

RS or IS??

Next semester CL2308 RS will be involved in the pilot i-book scheme. I need to get some e-Learning materials done to be ready for that. I decided to engage the help / outsource the task with a few students who are going to Uni / not actively looking for a full time job / willing to spare some to do part-time work for the next couple of months.

After asking around, finally got student S agreed to work on this p/t job. I think I should be happy and relieved as she is one of the top students. If I am not wrong RS she also get Distinction too! looks like piece of cake to get this job done in no time.

Met her in my office, sat down and explained to her what I wanted for the 5 chapters...
chapter 1 reaction rates
chapter 4 PFTR
chapter 7 chain reaction
chapter 9 catalyst
chapter 10 polymerisation

blah blah blah... blah blah blah...(meanwhile she was happy munching my chocolates away)

then of course come the suprise of the day : finally she ask one question :

" Sir, am I doing the RS (reactior system) or the IS (Industrial safety) ah?? "

I almost fall off my chair!!! (Student A, which is in my room can be my witness and also laugh until cannot stang up straight).

Alamak, I think this time I 上了贼船 ！！！

Which of course reminds me of Student J last year who was working with me for FYP for reactor optimisation.

Get her to the lab , explain to her on the batch reactor hardware setup, how to take reading, why we need to improve, how to ascertain the data, when is the limit reach, how to reconfirm data etcetc ...

then of coure when I ask her if she have any question, she finally asked:

" Er...Is concentration equals to flow? "

I remembered I have no appitite for lunch that afternoon, and I have no appitite for lunch today either. I think I will be able to cut off 2 ines off my waistline the semester break working with student S this 2 months...really looking to slim down...

Not only that...I think I have alot to write in my blog also...readers....u all should really thanked her ah....

2006S2 GHH safety book prize winners

These are the top 4 overall high score in my safety module this semester.

Huay San Acad marks is the best overall...she dun even need to come to VIVA to secure her place in the top.

Xin Yin acad is also not bad...however she did not come for VIVA...so she is overtaken by James in the overall marks.

Yuan Hua is very steady all round...test / exam / viva / Lab reports are all very consistant.

James is the lucky one...kenna rejected by me during submission of exam script so that he can recheck...and found he missed 1 section and gain extra few marks. If taken that away he might not be in the same position liao.

Show them the books available and funny enough they each choose a different one...

XY chose Rules of life...the blue one...Good choice !!!
James chose Rules of management...red book...(can't wait to be a boss already)
HS chose Rules of wealth..the new and yellow one ..$$$ face...and is my only one...wahhhh
YH chose Rules of work...practical choice

Another funny thing to mention is that they all told me that all 4 of them nv top the class b4...
they are all really very happy...wonder what happen to the tradition acad powerhouse in this semester....

I signed each book and finally it is time to take a picture together, - er Hey James...why are you standing so far far away and your face so red?

CNY gathering 2007

Now that the moving house is into its last phase, I can finally obtain and can confirm the approval for the CNY gathering this year.

Sorry it won't be so soon...in fact it will be on the last day of CNY (15th day), which is on

March 4 , Sunday , 1pm till 5pm @ 42, Qunitet, CCK St. 64, #12-16.

Ang Bao / Pizza / lucky draw prizes to be given away...must come!!!

Safety Exam Invigilation

Just completed safety exam this noon, Ｉ really ought to start marking the answer scripts but suddenly feeling like writing some thoughts of mine down before the urge goes away...

As usual - I prepared mentos for the students as energy booster,(or morale booster). This semesrter at least there is an appreciative students C approached me and says "thanks for the mentos, it helps". On the other hand of course there is some that eat finish the mentos and 拍拍屁股　leave the wrappings on the table without claering them in the end.

Then when time to start the exam - Student Z was missing. Called her and she say dunno the location, went to Block S instead of block G. Told her to run like crazy and she finally reached sports hall zone 3 27 mins late...phew!! talk about just in time.

(of course she was not all time worst...student K was still asleep when I call her a yaer ago!!)

then there is this blur king student J - already missed some common test questions by not checking the no. of sheets / questions properly each time, cursed n swaer at himself only after the events...then try to be funny and submit 40 mins early. I repeated warn him about his common repeated error and he was visibly shanken and agree to check 1 more time...sure enough he miss 1 section of 10 marks again!!! Talk about learning your lesson through bad experience...

Then there is this student M, who is in my personal opinion liked to be spoonfed - he was sitting at the back and wave frantically to highlight me to go over to collect his paper. While walking there he wave intermittenly at leat 4 times!! And i decided to turn back mid way and sit on the front roll then. He have no choice to walk all the way up front to submit the paper himself...then I make him walk 1 more big round as he did not fill in the cover page correctly.


As the stdents are all busy doing the qusetions, this was the time I play a little game with myself. I would go down the roll of students and ask myself 1 by 1 what is the students name. This is a test / reflection of how well I know the class by the end of term. Usually I got 70% correct and another 25% need some cheating from the name list. I was also starring into their face very hard, knowing that if I still cannot remember their face/name...most likely that I will forget them soon and forever liao.

Then I got this shock that I came across the student L - I look hard into his face , look at the name list, then look into the face again, and I HAVE NO IDEA HE WAS MY STUDENTS!!! NEITHER THE FACE NOR NAME RING A BELL!!!

Abit sad about this...or he is very good in staying away from me .. or maybe it's me getting old....

Well...just to share my thoughts during invigilation today...now to start the slaughter!!! (marking paper).

Proposed 3D 2 N Macau trip

Now that there is 22 of us going and the trip is confirmed, I have taken some time to look through the various places of interest in Macau and would like to propose the following activities for the tour:


Day 1 - Sunday 11 Mar

Arriving at Macau Aipport 1245pm / custom / transfer / check in / freshen up - 3pm already most likely

3pm - walk to central Macau district. Visit Runis of St Paul's church + shopping + Dinner
(Can shop till u drop type of market, i will provide the map)

After 11 pm I will go casino, those who are above 18 can also join me, may need your beginner's luck!! (Casino is actually next to hotel!!)


Day 2 - Morning Free BF in hotel - ready by 9am i think
Free city tour stop 1 - go to Kun Lam Tong / A Ma temple
stop 2 - proposed detour go to Taipa Village instead + lunch
stop 3 - Proposed drop us at Macau Tower
(bungee / skywalk /flying fox take your pick - willing to sponsor anyone dare to jump bumgee)

Back to hotel to wash up and evening walk to nearby Fisherman's Wharf theme park - 24 hours entertainment centre. Again can party / shop till u drop.

I may want to continue the good luck with more beginners at a separate casino at 11 again. :)


Day 3 - BF and morning stroll to Guia Hill / cable car nearby and / or New Yaohan Dept store at terminal

Important : need to check out of hotel by 12 noon n leave your belongings in lobby

After check out I would like to challenge Christof again for the Go-cart racing

Flight is 6pm so we have till 4 pm to do last minute shopping. Those dun like to join in the Go-cart can try to shop at the Three Lamps District(De Carlos da Maia) for last minute T-shirts / souvinours shhopping or continue shop at New Yaohan.


4pm - transfer to airport. Arriving S'pore at 11pm.

I think it will be a fun trip...really looking foreward to it.
