TONY BUZAN on Memory
This is the MEMORY graph...Tony says this is the graph that will change your life. I guess we are all suconciously using this graph without knowing it...patially. Now that I know in full...it will of course works better for me to learn / teach.
Then of course there is the reverse...the forgetting curve!!
Now I an seriuosly considering to use my 1st hour 2nd year RS lecture time to go through these curves with the students. It will be so beneficial for those who want to learn / study properly and retain info fast n long but not knowing the proper techniques. Waiting for them to reach 3rd yr maybe be abit too late. (well it will never be too late as long as they willinh too learn actually).
Summarise below are some of the very very important pointers that goes along with the delivery:
When taking notes -
1. use C O L O U R !!! (BIG BRIGHT COLOURS!!!)
2. add sketches / symbols / codes.
3. Vary your font size to emphasize too.
4. use lines / arrows to link / connect ideas/ concepts
5. highlight the critical info
All these are vital to sink in the ideas into our memory. Once done...it is actually a MIND MAP!!
Making things BIG / Different / outstanding / so that it can be easily reembered is call the Van Restroff effect.
To enhace the retention : MUST use Association + Imagination
PPl remember the starting part : Primacy effect (1st) and also remember the last things - Recency effect. so intro / summary are extremly important.
Take B . R . E . A . K . S during study!!! (it actually creat more recency / primacy).
If train properly, memory actually gets better when you are older. (world best memroy champion is actually 46 yr old)
When leave people...always leave on a HIGH!!!...so that u have a good memory and looking foreward to meet again.
Make your life Memorable!!! Make your like exciting!!! make your life Colourful!!! Learn new things!!! in that way your mind is always under Van restroff's effect state!!
DO NOT TRY TO REMEMBER - Instead : RE-VIEW / RE-VISION (Try to see the picture / visualise instead!!)
STM into LTM = 5 x R (To transfer short term memory to long term memory - need to repeatedly visualise 5 time)
Healthy body - healthy memory!!
Worse case scenario : Dis-interested. Why? Because that means U dun visualise / remember...next time u see and u get frustrated...anti new info...disconnected...then u say because U are old...no use...then U feel down and every things spirial downwards!!!!
Instead Revise / review (time spent actually getting v short!!). U can imagine the mind map even it's not there and U can even connect new things as U gain more knowledge and U feel good!! Spirial UPWARDS instead!!
Anyone interested in momorizing 20 items withoput fails?...just a try if the stsyem works on u...
Tony 2008 visits to SIM has been fixed, i have mark down in my calender the courses i would like to join next Sept break. :) care to join me? It's definitely worth my time and my life!!!

2007 S1 GHH Book Prize Wiiners
Betty is all rounded, consistent in all category in her performance. Andre scored 100 in his VIVA (95 for the QnA and 5 bonus points in the tutorial puzzle). Soo Hua did well in her lab reports and also scord 100 in VIVA...though she opt for DEAL in the VIVA. Siow Cheng also DEAL in VIVA and did well in the final exam.
QH actually scored the highest in the final exam...but his hand writing is one of the worst i ever come across...so that cost him very dearly in the lab reports...and he dare not come for the VIVA QnA to boost his score. so he missed out the book prize by a small fraction. Really hope he will improve his handwritting .
Farewell this batch of students....some may work with me but I won't see most of them anymore till 5 months later when they are back for PBP presentation...b4 they graduate.

Week of various outings / gathering
Then next outing is to go Pasir Ris chalet to join the Cp505 group for breakfast and played the dice games. Too little time to teach them Settlers. Instead we try to finish the drinks and my jellies. The jelly taste sooo good that even some volunteered to lose...maybe next time need to use a different forfeit for this crazy group le.
Then it's time to meet up with my 6 PbP attachemnt students for report / presentation briefings. Met them at West Mall coffee beans and talked for about 90 mins. then when all questions / doubts are answered, we proceed to E-zone and played the tank battle games / racing and other arcade games too. Hope they are now more settled and confident about the whole event.
Nantiaah and Nurul came along too. They are under the different care of a different LO so I did my part as a PEM to brief them accordingly sothat they wont lose out in the preparation of the big event.
Then it's the farewell of San. Wish her all the best in her future....I have failed to convince her to speak out more in PBP, failed to convince her to come for DnD, failed to convince her to come for VIVA, and now finally failed to convince her to stay longer to experince the real exposure as a DT.
We wenton to redeemed some durian mooncake as desserts. Each has 2 and play game to decide who eat the rest of 3. Finally got San to eat!!!
